Product Review: Tissot Academy Touch Collection Essential Watch
I recently had the opportunity to check out the Tissot Academy Touch Collection Essential Watch. This solar powered watch is coined the “ultimate sports watch.”
It definitely has some interesting features including:
- Stop watch
- Meteo – which tells you the weather
- Alarm that can be set during the week and on the weekend
- 2 time zones
The T-Touch Collection was one of the first “wearable” collections on the market. It was developed in 1999 and was the first-ever touch watch. The watch that I had the opportunity to look at was a men’s version which has 20 functions on it. The women’s version only has 13 because of its size.
The other cool thing is that its solar powered and never needs a charge. The company representative told me that you can keep it in a dark safe for over a year and the battery still won’t die. It works on both indoor and outdoor light.
What I didn’t like about it was that there was no smart connections. When I asked the representative about that, she confidentially told me that it is in production and that sometime next year the touch will also have bluetooth connections and it will be independent of technology. Now isn’t that cool? Could you imagine not having to have your phone at all times?
The watch is interesting. There are three buttons on the side. The larger button in the middle gets the watch going. Once you hear the beep from pressing in the larger button, that engages the touch screen. The lower half of the watch has a LCD display. On the bezel, all of the functions are located. Once you activate the middle button and touch the function that you want, it becomes engaged.
I particularly like the compass. I found myself turning around and walking in different locations to see how it well it worked.
In addition to being solar powered, the watch is in a titanium case making it very light and comfortable to wear. It has a rubberized band and can be cut to easily be sized to your wrist.
I generally think it’s a pretty cool watch but I don’t love the face of it. I find it a little hard to read the LCD screen. I also wished it had the smart features but this watch is not for the techno geek. It’s really for the man who loves action and adventure and wants a watch to suit his needs. It’s a classy looking watch and would look nice with a business suit or a pair of shorts and a tee.
The other good feature is that it’s a swiss company that’s been around for a very long time and quality is important to the company.
Check it out on line at Tissot. There are a few different versions there with different styles. The retail price of the watch is $1195.
